About

Let’s not put on any airs. Virtual Graffiti is a one-man shop and that one man is me: Ken Leavitt-Lawrence.

Some may question the wisdom of admitting to being a one-man shop, but that kind of thinking seems foolish to me. The one-man shop has many advantages for the client. In fact I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of clients seeking web work would be better served by a one-man shop than by a larger design firm.

With a one man shop you aren’t paying for anything that’s not directly related to your website or project. A larger design firm has to pay salespeople, receptionists, possibly a custodial staff, etc. These people have nothing to do with building your website, but you can be sure that the price the design firm charges you will include their salaries.

With a one-man shop you don’t pay for anything you don’t see on your site. Plus you are in constant communication with the person who is building your website as opposed to a salesperson or receptionist.

So a one-man shop can do the same job, with a more personal touch, for less money. So what’s the catch?

Well, the strength of the one man shop can also be its drawback. A larger company has several people with various skill-sets to draw from when building a site. The one-man shop, conversely, has only the skills and abilities of one man (or woman as the case my be). So if that man or woman does not posses the skills required then he or she will be of no use to you regardless of how much money you might save.

I believe that my skills and experience make me almost unique in the world of one-man web development shops. I have worked in the computer field for over ten years and have professional experience in almost every area of website and application development. Throughout my career in the corporate world (before I struck off on my own) I worked as a technical support technician, a technical writer, a software developer, a user interface designer, a project manager, a Flash/Actionscript developer, a web designer, and a web developer.

I have a vast and diverse skill set which allows me to design and develop websites as good or better than the “big boys” for a lot less money.
